Volunteer's Experience

 VOLUNTEERING       JULY 2009                  TELLO     INDONESIA

Our family of four, myself   Andrew, two sons Tim 21 and Oli 19 volunteered with Troppodoc.

I have always known that giving is better than receiving but I had no idea that giving of one’s time in a remote region of the world would be so beneficial for each one of us. We were so lucky to be volunteering at the same time as two New Zealander’s Jenny and Marietta, fantastic women. The six of us became a great team, with cooking, shopping, working, chatting, sharing ideas and communicating and working with Dr. Ben and Elyese from Belgium.

File photo (1) shows Dr. Ben, Marietta, Andy, Tim, Oli and Elyese on the main road with some children, bikes and homes outside the Community Hall across the road from Emerwati’s home.   Given, our wonderful interpreter   and I,   had just spent a couple of hours with Emerwati , when Jenny and   Marietta   arrived to give a talk in the Community Hall, Tim and Oli were on their way to fix a water tank , Ben and Elyese   seeing patients.
