March 23-31st 2010 Added to site: Mar 23
March 23 Heavy rain causing flooding in the Pariaman area where we were going to .Today’s clinic cancelled, and a rest day decided upon.
March 24 Writing letter to President of Indonesia to explain helicopter situation and get some assistance from the top, hopefully.
March 25 & 26 Village clinics in Pariaman – seeing between 50-70 people/ day. Osteo arthritis, gastro oesophageal reflux, malaria, Ross river fever, Tb, respiratory infection, postural hypotension, headache, hypermetropia, and cataract are some of the common cases.
March 27 Fly from Padang to Batam, taxi airport to harbour, then ferry to Singapore to stay with Christina, while organizing for myself a 2 month visa for Indonesia.
March 28 – 31 My passport is almost completely full except endorsement page and I need to get NZ Govt permission to get Indonesian visa 2 month, stamp on that page, return tickets to Indonesia (ferry) and 2 passport photos, and then wait for 2 full days. Meanwhile I visit the NZ Embassy in Singapore to start the wheels turning for Melioni’s Visa to New Zealand. I seek out Dr Koonjin to get his validation of my photos for my new passport application. Time available also to get official translation of Bahasa Indonesian to English for the guardianship document I have signed for Melioni. This is done at the Singaporean Supreme Courthouse.
